About Krefeld

Krefeld is an independent city in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, covering nearly 138 square kilometers with a population around 235,000.

The city developed from two historic towns, Krefeld and Uerdingen, now a district along the Rhine.

Its long-standing association with textiles earned it the nickname “Samt- und Seidenstadt.” Today, industry remains important, highlighted by the Henkel production site. Seasonal events like the annual wine tasting at Beachclub Krefeld offer local engagement alongside its industrial heritage.
